Abstract | This study presents The Experiment on Rebar Splices for Connections in Ferro U-Shell Precast Beams. The experiment was performed in AIT’s structural laboratory. Four ferro u-shell precast beams were conducted in order to investigate bond strength of the spliced rebars in connections under third-point loading flexural test. The specimens varied in main reinforcement ratio, generally found in low-rise residential buildings. Additionally, to improve the performance of the spliced rebars, 90-degree hooked-configuration was adopted. In term of confinement, high strength mortar with steel fiber was used in the connection of one beam instead of transverse reinforcement. However, one normal concrete beam is designed according to ACI318 to control the behavior of beam under same testing. Due to static test, load cell and displacement transducer were obtained load and mid-span deflection, respectively, to establish the Load-Deflection graph. The comparison of load-deflection relationship of each specimen obtained the different behavior, including the ultimate load and the failure mode of each beam. The behavior of variable beams was compared with the normal concrete beam based on the same reinforcement ratio. Moreover, metal-foil strain gauges were instrumented on the longitudinal bars to capture the strain responses during flexural test. A change in strain level was observed when the crack propagates. It justifies that the failure mode can be predicted by a change in strain level. In case of performance of the beam, even if the provided development length was decreased around 60%, high strength mortar with steel reinforcement along with the hooked-configuration demonstrated advance performance of the ferro u-shell precast beams. |
