AbstractFlow estimation is essential for water resources management; however, those estimations in ungauged catchments have been recognized as a challenging task. This is an attempt to carry out compare two regionalization approaches to estimate stream flow in Bang Giang – Ky Cung (BGKC) river basin of Vietnam. Regression and physical similarity methods with MIKE NAM model were used for streamflow estimation in presumably ungauged Langson (within BG-KC river basin) and Huulung (nearby BG-KC river basin). Using three measure criteria (correlation coefficient R, NSE, and PBIAS) to evaluate each approach performance, the study found out that regression approach is slightly better than physical similarity in terms of estimating streamflow. Drainage density, catchment slope, and forest factor are important attributes for regionalization approaches. The study is useful in providing information for selecting suitable regionalization approach and catchment attributes to estimate water resources at poorly gauged and ungauged basins in Vietnam.
