AbstractWater Energy and Food sector are interlinked and depends on one another. A systematic management of these resources is important for the socio-economic development and sustainability of any country. Proper allocation of river basin water among its competing users becomes essential where water scarcity exist. This study first evaluate the existing scenario of water energy and food sector of Karnafuli River Basin in Bangladesh. Microsoft Excel is used to quantify the baseline situation of these sectors. A water allocation model based on optimization tool, LINDO 6.1, with an objective function to maximize the economic return is developed for allocating water to different water use sector (domestic, industry, energy, agriculture and environment) in the study basin. Several future scenarios analyzed in the study which clearly indicated that the economic return from the basin can be improved compared to the existing water use practices.
