AbstractIn the year of 2006, by joining in WTO, the Vietnamese economy has changed strongly for integrating into the regional economy. The growth rate of the construction sector in Vietnam reached an average of 4.4% per year for three-year period, from 2013 to 2015. Between 2014 and 2015, the construction growth rate reached a peak of 10.82%, which was the third industry had highest growth to contribute to GDP (according to figures from the General Statistics Office). In the other hand, to improve the construction management in both domestic and international market at that time, Vietnamese Government built a legal framework with many Codes of Law for closely controlling of the construction market such as, Town Planning Act, Construction Law, Housing Law and Business Law Real Estate… They significantly impacted to both level and quality of Vietnamese construction and guided to have substantial improvements. Due to all these huge changes in Vietnamese construction’s market in the recent years, the foreign contractor (specially, Asia Countries) has begun to invest into Vietnamese market. By division of sectors, till the end of year 2010, the industry and construction section takes the biggest portion in foreign investment with 8,375 projects (made up 61.69% total projects) and 119.5 billion US dollars of registered capital (made up 56% total investment capital) (from Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), 2010). Among the Asia contractors (Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China…), the proportion of Japanese contractor is majority. According to a survey that conducted between October and November of 2015, there are 4,635 Japanese companies in Asia, in which there are 557 operating in Viet Nam (from Vietnam News, Japanese businesses to expand Viet Nam operations, Feb. 24th.2016). Most the biggest Japanese contractors (such as, Maeda Corp., Shimizu Corp., Obayashi Corp., Sumitomo Corp., Kajima Corp…) choose invest in factory construction with Design & Build (D&B) delivery approach. Thus, it becomes a strategic business for almost Japanese contractors in Vietnamese construction market at present. Beside the right way, the applying the professional project management with knowledge, processes, skill, tools, and techniques may be able to have a dramatically affect to success of Japanese contractor. Above of all, process management is considered as the most important key and the important foundation to recognize project, manage it effectively in order to minimize the expense as well as maximizing the profit.
