AbstractI have been working as a petroleum economist at the Business Development Division of PVEP for 6 years. My main task is to evaluate the efficiency of upstream projects to add to the project portfolio. I always think that by choosing the good opportunities, I will help my company to have a powerful set of projects as a whole. However, I ask myself “Is my thought always right since I have never review the performance of the all projects in a single one portfolio?” Choosing a right project for a portfolio is necessary step but is not enough to ensure a good performance of a portfolio. A project completes its duty when fully accomplishes the company strategy objectives. For PVEP, with the ambition of being in the top national oil company in the region by the year 2015, it has to make sure that its petroleum project portfolio is going on the right way. Hence this paper will aim at reviewing the current project portfolio of PVEP to see if it meets the strategic target of reserves and production during 2007-2010 period, and recommending some essential action plan that would help PVEP achieve its strategic plan toward year 2015. Hopefully, the findings and recommendations in this paper will catch attention and interest of PVEP’s Board of Management and they will have appropriate action in the soonest time.
