Abstract | This study presents an experiment on the strengthening of Reinforced Concrete (RC) by Near-Surface Mounted (NSM) Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) rod. Seven full-size beams (one control beam and six strengthened beams) with internal shear reinforcement were tested to simulate a real strengthening situation. The variables examined were types of FRP (Carbon and Aramid), spacing of the rods and strengthening pattern to analysis the influence on failure mode and structural behavior. Results of the experimental test are compared with existing predicted model for NSM shear strengthening technique. The study identified critical failure mode related to peel-off of lateral concrete at NSM strengthening zone from the concrete substrate. Therefore, the new criterion to prevent peel-off of NSM shear strength has also been proposed. |
