AbstractAfter long time of preparation, Vietnam Competitive Generation Market (VCGM) has officially come into operation on July, 01st 2012. This is the first stage in the evolution of the Vietnam electricity market approved by the Government to build a full retail electric competition market. The launch of the competitive power generation market aims to secure equality in power production and pricing of electricity, improving production efficiency, and attracting more resources of funding for power generation. The market operates under the model of cost-based pool (CBP) and includes two parts: contract market and spot market (Mandatory Cost - Based Gross Pool). Power producers contract with single buyer and have the rights to offer power prices on the market. Electric Power Trading Company (EPTC), a subsidiary of Vietnam Electricity, is single buyer company in the market. EPTC is responsible for calculating and arranging contracts with power producers and distribution companies in order to make the trade-off between business profit and energy demand. This research analyzes current payment process of the company by analyzing available data and information from various internal and external sources of EPTC. The analysis will determine how EPTC makes payment in Vietnam Competitive Generation Market. Feasible solutions are also proposed to solve problems to ensure payment and to meet the requirements of the market.
