AbstractThe aim of this academic work is to explore mechanisms to deliver virtual assistance to Community Rice Centers in Thailand. Our investigations find that information kiosks serve this purpose best. The planned information kiosks will serve rice farmers by providing both online and offline data related to the entire farming process from pre-harvest to postharvest. This thesis begins by describing the motivation for using information kiosks in Thai agriculture, and their design, including both hardware and software content. A pilot project installing an information kiosk at one Community Rice Center was conducted as part of the thesis to investigate the utility of information kiosks. This experiment took place over a 6 month period, and the sample consisted of 150 rice farmers. Analysis of the data from multiple farmer surveys, both before and after the deployment of the information kiosk, establishes that kiosks can indeed be a valuable ICT resource for rice farming in Thailand.
