Abstract | Lapping process is a major sub process from many processes in slider fabrication manufacturing. Productivity of lapping process depend on process time that is called “lap time”. According to lap time is not fix value, it is influenced by a lot of factors and lapping’s parameter a part of them. The purpose of this research is to reduce lap time of lapping process. In term of quality, standard deviation of reader electrical lapping guide, that is called “RELG sigma”, is considered as a response which has to maintain in the same level. One-factor-at-a-time (OFAT) method have been used for lapping’s parameter selection. Plate speed at rough phase, motor load at rough phase, motor load at fine phase and oscillation frequency at fine phase were selected in this state. From OFAT result, design of experiment (DOE) have been used to analyze main effect of these parameters. From DOE result, plate speed and motor load at rough phase with high level setting affect to lap time. In optimization state, motor load at rough phase was varied to 5 settings while plate speed at rough phase was set to maximum value of machine. The result showed that motor load at 4000 and plate speed at 60 rpm make lowest lap time. These 2 settings have been applied to 1 machine in real production to confirm the response. Lap time from optimized parameters is 3.17 minutes compare with 4.33 minutes from the original setting that can improve productivity 26.8% without any effect with RELG sigma. |
