Abstract | The paper discusses about a popular human resource and leadership issue in contemporary organizations today which is how young leaders can cultivate successful working relationships with older employees. The two descriptive research methods adopted to collect information are survey which is applied for older employees and structured interview is for young leaders. The survey and interview are conducted based on the theoretical basis of how older employees perception might lead to certain behavior and attitudes towards young leaders besides the early assumption of age difference is the main reason which causes all problems between young leaders and older employees, leadership style of young leaders toward older employees and how young leaders could influence these employees. Results suggest that an individual perception really has great impact on how that person behave towards an object or in a particular situation and influence is the core of leadership in which influence tactic of persuasion is the best tactic that young leaders can apply to older employees. Based on these findings, effective communication and appropriate motivation strategy are the two tools recommended for young leaders to resolve this issue and to build trusting relationship with older employees. |
