AbstractWireless networks have grown in an explosive fashion in recent years. Wireless network systems in the future will allow different types of networks that coexist or overlap in the same service areas to cooperate with one another. Therefore, the time of an integrated heterogeneous wireless network system —the use of multi-mode equipment which can provide users to access many networks— will soon arrive. However, one problem exists. Network congestion will occur if the users are allowed to select any networks they prefer by themselves. This problem affects the system in the way that it could not satisfy the guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS). That is why this research study proposes the network selection tactic. This method focuses on Call Admission Control (CAC) and Utility Function (UF) in the heterogeneous wireless networks selected by the operator in order to improve system performance index. In our research, the heterogeneous wireless networks consist of cellular network and Wi-Fi network, which was considered to provide both voice and data services. Moreover, in our simulation system, we considered the system performance index that was the overall blocking probability in various scenarios and also comparing with previous proposal. Our result demonstrated that the proposed algorithm can improve the system performance index.
