How to improve employee job satisfaction at Vinacomin-Dong Trieu Thermal Power Company

AbstractThe objectives of this research are to (1) Identify the factors which affect the job satisfaction level of employees in the company, (2) Assess the job satisfaction level of employees in the company, and (3) Check whether there are any differences in term of the job satisfaction level of employees by individual characteristics (gender, age, educational level, working position, length of service in the company, monthly average income) or not. The research model contains eight components: job characteristics, training and promotion, leadership, colleague, salary, welfare, job performance appraisal, working conditions; and eight hypotheses corresponding to each component are developed on the basis of theory on the job satisfaction of employees. The qualitative research is carried out to correct and complete observation of variables for the scales. The quantitative research is carried out with 346 employees who are working in the company by the detail questionnaire aiming at assessing the scales and the research model. The statistical analysis sofware SPSS 16.0 for Windows is used to analyze data. The results show that the component of workload is not suitable for this research. The results of factor analysis present the model of the job satisfaction of employees in Vinacomin - Dong Trieu Thermal Power Company, which is the combination of the components: “Salary and welfare”, “Leadership”, “Training and promotion”, “Job performance”, “Colleague”, Role of work”, “Working conditions and facilites”. In reality, the research makes the company’s leaders aware of the job satisfaction level of employees in the company, as well as the factors which affect to the job satisfaction level. Then, they can give the essential and suitable solutions to improve the job satisfaction level of employees. The research results also recommend some further research directions to complete the theories on assessing the job satisfaction of employees, which are applied for enterpries in Vietnam in general.
