High turnover rate for mid level professionals at APL

AbstractAPL, a well known company in the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assembly business and employer of about 7000 employees is the biggest company of Thailand for manufacturing of PCB. The company exhibited years of superior record of consistently growth, sustainable profitability and leadership in the PCB industry. The company has a large network of satisfied customer base and well known for providing the superior quality and high performance products to all valued customers. The company is well regarded for the innovation and research effort and has several US patents assigned to it. The innovation is mainly focused in terms of capability enhancement and sophistication of the manufacturing. The company faces a challenge of high attrition rate for its technical personnel majority being the part of research and Development department. Considering the company to be a technology specific company, it is a rather serious problem. With the experienced engineers and professionals leaving the company, the pace of the research projects experience slow down. The decline in the number of invention and patents published in recent years supports the fact that innovation has slowed down as well. This will threaten the competitive position of the company in longer term. The study focuses on the problem of high attrition and investigates the possible causes. On the basis of the research finding there are recommendations and implementation action plan provided which would help to reduce the turnover.
