Abstract | The thesis applies performance evaluation of listed companies of Vietnam and Thailand working on power sector. It evaluates how well the company performs is achieved through ratio analysis of three generation companies of Vietnam (Nhon Trach – NT2 and Pha Lai -PPC Joint Stock Company) and Electricity Generating Public Company (EGCO) in Thailand. The brief introduction of power energy market in ASEAN in general and of Vietnam and Thailand in particular are presented together with challenges and opportunities assessment. The relevant data is collected from the annual financial statements of NT2, PPC and EGCO for the period 2013-2015. Financial performance analyses for the three companies are executed. Four group of financial performance ratios are calculated such as liquidity ratios, activity ratios, debt ratios and profitability ratios, and then the best performance among the companies are measured. The comparison is carried out in group between the two similar Vietnamese companies, namely NT2 and PPC, in order to give comprehensive assessment in term of finance, management and business strategy. Finally, the financial performance ratios of EGCO, a Thailand’s energy company with great regional reputation, are calculated. With the strong competence in both technical knowledge, management skill, capital, as well as the dimension of business expansion in the ASEAN region, it can be concluded that EGCO has the best financial performance in comparison with NT2 and PPC. Relevant and useful conclusions can be drawn in order to give investors, creditors and managers an in-depth insight on the company’s performance before making investment decisions. Besides, in order to strengthen and take valuable opportunities in power sector industry in the region, some cooperation and working model is recommended for both Vietnam’s and Thailand’s companies. Hopefully, with the renewable and alternative energy development plan, vision to 2030, Vietnam’s and Thailand’s companies working in power sector will strictly cooperate together to achieve win-win success in the near future. |
