Abstract | This study proposes an approach for disseminating alert messages among vehicles on the road, for city and highway conditions, in a directional manner so as to ensure safe and improved road experience. The proposed scheme encourages communication between vehicle and roadside units and among the vehicles themselves for inferring vehicles’ relative positions to facilitate sending directional alerts. It relies on apriori probability to estimate the relative position(i.e, ahead or behind) of the moving vehicle with respect to another vehicle. This is done by logically examining the time when the vehicles pass certain landmarks. However, it was observed that this method does not guarantee the accuracy of the result under some conditions. Hence, in order to strengthen the trustworthiness of the apriori probability we aim to support it by using speed information of the vehicles and approximating the distance traveled by them after they pass a particular landmark within a certain time interval. In order to evaluate the system, relevant traffic mobility models were generated by SUMO and MOVE and corresponding experiments were performed in NS3 simulated OLSR network. The experiment results supported our approach. |
