Abstract | The construction industry is a sector which employs a lot of people, but it is also the same sector which is associated with number of small injuries to near miss and major accidents depending on the type of the construction activity. A safety leader is the one who is responsible for all the activities taking place daily. In terms of safety, a safety leader’s top priority should be safety rather than productivity. This study concentrates on finding the skills which a safety leader should have so that safety-related accidents will be reduced. To achieve the objectives of the study, skills have been identified from the recent research and those factors have been divided using Effective Factor Analysis. Based on the result, a structural equation model has been developed which shows the relationships between the safety leadership skills and the safety performance. This research is a quantitative type of research where the questionnaire is answered either by site engineer or safety engineer or supervisor. This study is conducted in the states of south India and the results might vary. In this study the model developed by the author Wu (2005) has been taken as a reference. |
