Abstract | Contract administration is one of the most important jobs in the construction industry which involves numerous tasks occurring before and after contract execution and work order issuance. All of the works in the project has to be administered in accordance with the contract specifications, terms and conditions, laws and regulations. In consideration of the construction contract, Red FIDIC contract is the one which has adequate contract obli gations for the both parties ( employer and contractor ) and it is commonly used in most of the construction industry all over the wor l d . Moreover, unlike other industries , construction industry has most potential problems as far as project management is concerned. The purpose of this research is to investigate occurrence of contract administration problems in real practices and the crit ical contract administration factors in Myanmar construction industry. In order to reach this purpose, 3 case studies of different types of contractor were conducted through document study, interview and site observation to collect the information related wi th contract administration problems. Then, collected data were analyzed to identify existing contract administration practices and the problems occurrence in contract administration activities. The results show that most of contractors are not aware of the detail contents of the contract and they mos tly do not have knowledge that it is better using the standard form of contract rather than using their own traditional contract form . Moreover, cont ractors are now having a major problem that there are only few subcontractors in the market so it is hard for them to get the competent subcontractor to carried out the project. On the other hand, most of the contractors fail to collect data and informat ion during work execution, fail to prepare and submit the monthly progress report, fail to update the time programme and adequate method of statement. These problems make the contractor s suffer from time and cost impact and sometimes effect the quality of work also. Furthermore, the recommendations are made for the contractors to solve the critical contract administration issues in order to contract administration in Myanmar. |
