Abstract | As the globalization of economic process accelerates, the influence of cultural difference is becoming more and more significant and important on most industries. Therein, the effectivity of construction project management is affected by various culture-based factors, such as leadership style, decision making style, and communication. This study was conducted to investigate the consequences caused by different cultural characteristics between Chinese managers and Thai employees based on national culture dimensions and preferred organizational culture, and tried to propose appropriate recommendation for improving effectivity of management on site. Questionnaire and interview were used as research instrument. The questionnaire investigates the national culture of Chinese managers and Thai employees in six dimensions, meanwhile exploring their preferred type of organizational culture and the current organizational culture in Chines construction company. Furthermore, the interview was conducted to explore the consequences caused by cultural differences and possible solutions. Data analysis was conducted by using explanation which all important evidences were described and statistical methods were used analyze data form questionnaire survey. The result of this study showed that Chinese manager and Thai employees have four differences in national culture dimensions, three of them have significant impact on project management in site, they are power distance, uncertainty avoidance and indulgence, additionally, a significant correlation between these three culture dimensions and preferred organization culture was found in this research, it is the main cause of that current organizational culture in Chinese construction companies is more matched with Chinese national culture. As a result, a number of negative impacts of cultural differences were found in project management, thus the change of culture is necessarily needed for improve the effectivity of project management on site. |
