AbstractIn India with the increase of urbanization and scarcity of resources in cities, resulted in developingsmart cities. Some private companies also started developing smart cities. A smart city have six components in it. This study focuses on the smart environment component, as it is the main component, which is mainly given less priority in most of the smartcities. With little more effort on this component will help to improve further. Pollution control management, waste management and energy management are considered as three fields for the effective working of smart environment component.By identifying the existing techniques, associated problems in these fields, assessing of current practices and participation of people on environment aspect andanalyzing through DPSIR framework helped in suggesting better recommendations and also acted as a better way for future smart city projects. Main advantage of DPSIR tool is its simplicity and flexibility. Assessment of current practices and participation of people on environment aspect is done by conducting questionnaire survey and with available date, analysis is made through DPSIR tool by dividing three fields into respective drivers, pressures, states, impacts and responses.
