Abstract | In a rapidly expanding cou ntry like India competent and ample transportation facilities play a crucial role in development and growth of country’s economy. India’s rapid growth over the past decades has enormous impact on its limited infrastructure. In order to meet this aggressive economic growth of the country, action plans and schemes must be made and implemented for the development, construction and main tenance of infrastructure. Due to this there are many road infrastructure projects upcoming to cater the needs and meet the demands of economic importance and sustainable growth. Efficient infrastructure is essential not only for the national integration b ut also for socio - economic development. It is observed in the Global construction Report that 31 % of global disputes occur in the transportation sector. This is more undesirable for the growing and developing infrastructure in India. Therefore this study is concentrated in construction claims in highway projects in India. The various root causes/sources of claims and disputes, types of claims and various claim resolution methods are identified from literature review and reviewed in reality with case studie s. The claims from each case study are categorized and then c ross c ase a nalysis is being employed to arrive at the common conclusions from the in dividual case studies to get an effective and clear understand ing of the scenario of claim s / disputes in highway projects . The conclusions are assumed to give a clear picture on the how claim and disputes arise , types and most employed resolution methods thereby the findings and recommendations can be used to prevent the similar claim cases in the upcoming pr ojects. The categorization of claim types and the percentage of each type helps us to know the main type of claims in the projects .This helps in be com ing aware of the major causes for the occurrence of claims and consecutively measures to avoid them can b e implemented even from start of future highway projects. Thereby it is hoped to serve as a reference in aspects of better claim handling and resolution methods and also increase the percentage of successful completion of highway projects within the alloca ted resources and without cost & time overruns leading to consequent claims |
