AbstractClimate change is becoming the greatest issue in today’s world. The global temperature is likely to increase that result in the effect in the precipitation and runoff pattern in the river basin. Even the rate of soil erosion and flow of discharge in the ri ver is increasing due to the climate change. The change in land use has been significantly observed due to the human encroachment and climate change. This change in land use pattern also affects the soil layer and erosion also takes place. This increase i n the soil erosion brings the increase sediment load to the river system which in turn affects the river discharge. Hence, the study of effect of climate change and land use change on the stream flow and sediment has become essenti al. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the impact of climate and land use change on soil erosion and streamflow in the Bago river basin in Myanmar. Linear scaling of bias correction was used for downscaling daily precipitation, temperature using three GCMs CCSM4, BCC - CSM1.1 a nd MIROC - ESM for the period of 2010 - 2039 (2030s), 2040 - 2069 (2060s), and 2070 - 2099 (2090s) under two emission scenarios RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5. It is predicted that the future temperature and precipitation will increase in this river basin in compare to base line period of year 1991 - 2005. The semi distributed hydrological Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) is used to analyze the impact of climate change and l and use change on the streamflow and soil erosion considering land use map of year 2004 and 2009 of basin. The simulation shows the increasing trend the change in the annual streamflow and annual sediment yield of the basin . It is revealed from this analys is that there is remarkable impact on the river discharge and sediment flow due to change in climate and land use. Hence, the climate change adaptation and necessary land management practices to take into account the effect of the climate and land use change.
