| Abstract | Urbanization result in rapid urban expansion from urban into suburbs which related to socio - economic development. Urbanization led people need more land. Hence, it brought about land use change from agricultural area to build up area. Furthermore, urban expans ion can be caused by rise in number of population. Which resulted in peri - urban expanded because its land prices were lower than the city. Furthermore, suburbs can provide good public infrastructure, good accessibility and better accommodation on lower land price. Therefore, housing development project are increasing to complete demands which led to urban expansion. The main objectives are to understand recent urban expansion trend, to clarify factors of urban expansion and to analyze suitable to accommodate the future urban expansion. The study focuses on urban expansion which related to land change and population change. The research was conducted by mix method approach. Especially, utilization of Potential Surface Analysis. The result of this study represents trend of urban expansion from urbanization which rise in number of built - up area, and socio - economic development which lead to increase number of population and number of population density, increase number of household and price of land in peri urban cheaper than the city. In addition, this study demonstrates factors of urban expansion such as being center of educational institutes, religious center, accessibility and shopping mall. Factors of urban expansion influence on suitable analys is which brings about suitable area to accommodate for urban expansion. Suitable area divided 4 classes such as high suitable area, moderate suitable area, low suitable area and unsuitable area. Therefore, Potential Surface Analysis technique is essential technique for analyzing and finding suitable area to accommodate, and deal with urban expansion because land is limited and valuable resources. Thus, people should use available resources to get maximize benefits. Moreover, PSA technique support to achieve efficiency land use which Thailand national spatial plan determines for supporting efficiency of land use to accommodate for urban expansion, providing amenities for being good quality of life and reducing problems which come up with rapid urban expansion. |
