Abstract | Decline of functional POS is a core component of unsustainable urban development and most of the developing cities lack of awareness on this issue.POSs nowadays are underutilization stage due to lack of proper management and maintenance and also unsatisfied functions and services for public. To create functional POS, the role of stakeholders is major consideration for most of the cities. Furthermore, the major cause o f lack of collaboration of multi-stakeholders is mainly due to unawareness of the multi- benefits from these POSs. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to investigate the potential enhancement using multi-stakeho lders and multi-benefits for utilization o f POS of Mandalay city. The research used mix methods for both qualitative and quantitative analysis and where face to face interview and observation are qualitatively analyzed and questionnaire surveys are analyzed statistically. The results of the study show that the existing conditions of POSs lack of attention by local government and of proper management and maintenance with inadequate services and functions. These are the main reasons for underutilization of these spaces by public. In case of enhancing utilization of POSs, functions and services are the major consideration for the multi-stakeholders. To improve the collaboration of multi-stakeholders, the awareness on multi-benefits from POSs is important for stakeholders to invest as economic incentives. The findings of this research also show that the role of collaboration of multi-stakeholders and the awareness on multi-benefits of the POS specifically from park and gardens are one of the prominent roles for enhancing the utilization of the POSs. Furthermore, the study also recommends for further studies such as infrastructure development or some case studies in other developing cities to apply the methods conducted in this research and also with in-depth interview and more multi-stakeholders and the number of respondents. |
