Abstract | Currently, the vehicular air pollution and GHG emissions reduction has not been achieved. The failures may ascribe from the ignorance by psychological barriers. In this research, significant relationships of the perceptions an d the selected travel demand management (TDM) measures in order to reduce the number of private motor vehicles were explored. The context of the Nakhon Ratchasima municipality (NRM) was selected. Qualitative and quantitative methods were employe d. The local passengers and concerned institutions were observed and interviewed to identify the suitable travel behavioral theories. Obtained data from the questionnaire survey of 220 respondents were statistically analyzed to identify the correlations of perceptions, attitudes as psychological elements, and acceptability in the selected measures. The results show that the persons who accepted the mass transit systems improvement measure related to the persons who understood in air pollution and GHG emission issues and the persons who were the pro-environmentalisms. Nevertheless, the passengers who live outer NRM preferred to use the private moto r vehicles for their ow n benefits even they knew the environmental liability. In addition, local institutions should pay attention to push and pull measures in order to shift the travel habits, the insight studies on the significant factors by Path analysis or regression were recommended. |
