AbstractAccording to building damage statistics reported by researchers, number of stories, amount and arrangement of infill walls, taller 1 st story, and heavy overhang are most contributing factors to seismic responses of buildings. Thus the effects from these configuration irregularities are investigated. The reference building is taken from the database of the field survey investigation carried out in Bangladesh (2008). These configuration irregularities are added to the reference b uilding one by one, and 3D nonlinear static analysis is conducted. The effects from irregularities are investigated in terms of maximum normalized base shear, ultimate roof drift, drift distributions, damage distributions, and 1 st story deformations. The r esults are interpreted individually, and compared with the reference building. Approximation methods for determining maximum normalized base shear and ultimate roof drift are derived based on the results of analyses. Capacity spectrum analysis of all build ings is conducted based on the concept of equivalent single degree of freedom. Seismic performance of the buildings is observed.
