AbstractCommunity based ecotourism is said to have impact in livelihoods of the community and conserve and promote the natural resources, while through communit y participation. This study w as about finding the impact of CBET on the livelihoo d of the local community in Tak province of T hailand . It intende d to find out the impact of CBET by examining the participation of different s takeholders in the village of Thai Sammakhi and Mae Kut L uang especially focusing on decision making activities also, and a l so looked to discuss over what affected local community’s participation in different ecotourism activities. T he data was collected using questionnaire survey, ke y informant interview and focus group discussion. It was found out that in decision making village leader and working group committee paly the active role by drafting out the rules and benefit sharing mechanism and further persuading people do join service s, as service sector are passive decision makers while rest of the c ommunity takes the information only and support. In context of this access to natural resources leadership and knowledge for the CBET were outstanding factors that influenced participation of the stakeholders while comparing two villages and between stakeholders respectively. In the study, very less revenue was found out to be generated from CBET to have impact on people’s livelihood, while most of the people learned new knowledge in CBET a ctivities through sharing benefits and learning about the rules of CBET on forest as CBET was new activity initiated to them. This also initiated further promotion and prevention of degradation of forest resources in the village. There was also revival and promotion of indigenous knowledge through the activities such as traditional massages and herbal medicine. T herefore , CBET brought various impacts in different dimensions in people’s livelihood other than financial dimensions, while initiators were more i nvolved in decision making.
