AbstractClimate change is a global challenge, highly affecting the developing countries with low adapting capacity, of which Nepal is not an exception. Agriculture is the major source of income of farmers in Nepal which is highly dependent on climatic factors. Thus, climate change affects agriculture and livelihoods of agriculture dependent farmers in Nepal. Very few studies have been done in agriculture and climate change in Nepal and even less at farmer's level. This study was performed in different ecological zones, the terai, the mid hill and the high hill in the western development region of Nepal. Its subjects are local perceptions, witnesses and experiences on impacts of climate change on agriculture and adaptations by farmers. Information was collected from both primary and secondary data sources and was scientifically verified by trend analysis of climate data. Most farmers depending on subsistence agriculture have a perception of climate change and respond to the changes based on their own local knowledge and experiences on farming. They are undertaking both agricultural and non-agricultural adaptations at individual level. However, it is important to plan for appropriate technologies and sustainable community¬based adaptation strategies building on farmers local knowledge and situation to cope with the increasing impacts of climate change in the coming days.
