Abstract | Time and time again, people have been saying that "Children are the future". There is a reason for the repetition, and we would like to emphasize it yet again. Children always, when grow up later, become responsible for protecting the environment and conserving nature, especially in rural areas. It will be up to oUf children and their children after them to find ways to meet daily needs while at the same time conserve nature. Children are constantly learning and absorbing what they see and hear. They begin to formulate ideas, learn to analyze situations and make educated decisions from their birth until youth. What they learn today will form the foundation for the ideas and values that they follow tomorrow. It is, therefore, imperative that we continue to teach our children about the environment, and give them opportunities in the outdoors to discover nature and develop a wonder for it. We must also equip our children with the skills they need to be responsible citizens and to live in harmony with nature. This thesis research is one such process to design the draft guideline for Nature Conservation Education. Draft guidelines were developed with two goals in mind. The first goal was to enhance the ability of teachers to develop action oriented extra-curricular programs for Nature Conservation Education in secondary schools. The draft guideline was also designed to prepare children for adulthood so that they are able to adopt livelihoods that have a beginning or ideally a beneficial impact on natural world. This draft guideline equips the teacher with a comprehensive set of tools to develop Nature Conservation Education activities that are fun for their students in their secondary school. The important points of draft guidelines are organization system of Nature Conservation Education in the secondary school, how to establish the Green Clubs, levels of activities, role and duty of facilitators, required contents, organization and implementation, evaluation and follow-up activities, how to design and organize the modules of Nature Conservation Education for schoolchildren, etc. This is the first step and the foundation to develop the complete guidelines for Nature Conservation Education in the future. Draft guidelines are opened for researchers and other experts who want to improve such aspects mentioned above. |
