AbstractGathering of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) is a significant for rural livelihoods in the upland of Lao PDR. NTFPs supply food security and are the main source of cash income for people who live in the uplands areas. NTFPs are shows potential for the improvement of forest based on rural enterprises as a plan for poverty alleviation. NTFPs also provide a good entry point for community based land use planning, land allocation and management. This research was explored the management of non-timber forest products for rural livelihood in Phonxay district, Luangprabang Province, Lao PDR. Thus, there are several comparisons of different factors, the central aim of those comparisons is to build better understanding of the objectives that have been set up. The study was conducted into two villages to appreciate the economic benefit and income of over utilization and the role of institutions related to NTFPs management and utilization in these two villages, which would ultimately affect the livelihood of the villagers. Also, the study includes the overall evaluation the importance of NTFP practice to household economy of selected villages. The total households of the studied area were categorized into two groups one in Nambor village and second in Huaymaha village, Phonxay district, Luanprabang Province, these will be used as the representatives of preferred sampling size and used questionnaire to get information all through household interview, group conversation and key information discussion. On the other hand, one of the goals in the research is aiming to the direct and indirect economic benefit from NTFPs. In addition, the several central policies and local tradition rules of natural resource preservation do not have any specific articles on sustainable use and manage of NTFP. At the same time as the evidence of illegal NTFPs collection and delivery to middleman and external traders are still found to be illegal. By the ways, the average of understanding the rules of appropriate methods and appropriate time in collection NTFP are found very low among the insufficient group. There are all most households never live without the using of NTFP as daily food and household materials
