| Abstract | Production planning and control is the crucial function in manufacturing indus tries that concerns with a number of decision s regarding various production activiti es from an aggregate to operational level . Nowadays , many manufacturing firms still face a numb er of problems due to ineffective decisions i n production planning system , such as late delivery of goods , lack of raw materials, and too high inventory level . One of the causes of these problems is stochastic nature and complexity of m anufacturing system, making outcome of the planned production become more uncertain and likely to fail from expected result . This study aims to develop the simulation - based application that helps support short - term production planning in dynamic job shop. With the proposed applicat ion, consequence s of day - to - day operational decision can be carefully investigated before implementing and future problem s can be coped with in more timely and effective manner. The characteristics of job shop commonly found in m anufacturing firms, such as precedent constraint, machine setup time , move time of part, part with subassemblies, batch production , and batch transfer , are taken into consideration and many simulation - control parameters, such as stop time of simulation, number of replication, and scheduling rule , can be customized as needed. In the study, the main part of application and the simulation model for general job shop are developed using object - oriented programming. The database system is integrated to store a number of supportive data for an application. Fi nally , j ob schedule created based on the specified priority rule a nd various performance measure s are provided and shown through user interface for supporting daily operation planning in shop floor. |
