Abstract | This thesis attempts to schedule quay cranes and yard crane simultaneously to find the optimal solutions for the whole system. The objective for the scheduling of yard cranes is to minimize the total travel distance of yard cranes in the container yard. The objective of the scheduling of quay cranes is to minimize turnaround time of vessel by maximizing the number of dual cycles. A Global, Local, Near Neighbor Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm (GLNPSO) is applied to solve the problem. The parameters of particle swarm optimization to be adapted include inertia weight, acceleration constants. A comparison is made between schedules obtained by scheduling QCs & YCs simultaneously and those obtained by scheduling them separately. It is shown that schedules obtained by scheduling QCs & YCs simultaneously are better than those schedules obtained separately of 90% confident interval. |
