Abstract | The Safety Instrumented System (SIS) takes a very important role in a process plant. It reduces the inherent risks of processes toa as low as reasonably practicable level by taking actions to bring the processes to the safety states whenever they seem to run out of control. The consequences of the SIS failure are normally immeasurable then it should be always kept at a state as good as new. However if preventive maintenance is taken too frequently then the availability of the SIS for production shall be reduced or there is a possibility of introducing new potential problems to the system because of human error while performing maintenance activities. Other issue is that a SIS contains many components that may need different preventive maintenance frequencies, and hence, the need to find an optimum interval for shutdown the SIS for maintenance is important since the shutdown will affect process operation. This research project focuses on RCM approach to determine maintenance tactics to be applied for components of the ESD system at Phu My Fertilizer, Vietnam. This research shall use failure data analysis techniques, reliability estimates, and preventive maintenance models to obtain quantitative results that will help for decision making. |
