Abstract | A compact cosmetic container for pressed facial powder comprises a tray containing powder, a mirror, and a separate compartment suitable for storing a powder applicator. A tray container or godet come in a variety of shapes, such as round and rectangular. Typically, the godet is made of plastic or metal with a flat bottom and sides at right angle to the bottom portion. The portions of the pressed powder close to the sidewalls and in the corners of the container tend to be unused and ultimately discarded by the user. The proposed idea was to develop a godet for solving the problem that user cannot use the powder completely. The importance of the problem was investigated by a user survey and the collection of 100 samples of used pressed powder containers. Six new design concepts were investigated. The concept to redesign the shape of the godet was singled out as the most appropriate. The used containers were scanned and using curve fitting the optimal shape of the godet was determined. The most important aspect of the new design was to maximize the use of powder. Therefore, the focus is only in the godet and still leaves a lot of freedom for the surrounding box. Mostly make by plastic injection molding. Moreover, the strength of the pressed powder in the new godet is investigated also for preventing cracking with help of Finite Element Method (FEM). |
