AbstractOrder Review & Release (ORR) is an alternative for scheduling problem in dynamic environment. The objective of ORR is to determine the time of jobs to be released into the manufacturing system in order to reduce the work-in- process (WIP) and lead-time, while ensuring that the delivery performance and production throughput targets are achieved. Although ORR technique had been shown to be effective in many researches, it is still not widely applied in real business environment. The reason is the lack of an effective evaluation tool to support the production managers. So far, most of the studies in this field mainly focus on theoretical aspects. The results from these studies are still limited by several unrealistic assumptions that make them difficult to apply to the real situations. This thesis develops a prototype Decision Support System for Order Review and Release (DSSORR) to provide the practitioners a systematic method to make decisions on the release of orders based on workload. The core of the DSS is a simulation engine with a general data-driven simulation model generator which is used to support ORR decisions. Automatic simulation experiment generator is provided for the user to define range of parameters and influential factors. The performances such as throughput, lead-time, WIP ... are obtained from simulation to evaluate ORR policies. The optimal range for the load limit of each work center is also determined based on the operating curve generated by the decision support system
