Abstract | Cross layer architecture is a new design paradigm i n the domain of wireless and ad hoc networking. It enables knowledge sharing between la yers to provide optimization and better Quality of Service. The new idea behind this research is a design of cross layer framework between application and Medium Access Con trol (MAC) and between MAC and transport layer. The joint optimization between application and MAC is done to provide dynamic mapping of video frames based on it s priority information and network traffic load. The MAC and transport layer is jointl y optimized to design MAC aware transport which enables to regulate data rate from transport layer based on congestion information acquired from MAC. The proposed system is compared with Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) and static mappin g approaches. The evaluation is done with the aid of performance parameters such as peak signal to noise ratio, average end to end delay, throughput and packet delivery ra tio. From the result it is observed that packet delivery ratio, throughput and peak signal t o noise ratio of proposed system is increased than other mapping approaches. The averag e end to end delay of the proposed system is quite higher than that of EDCA but lower than that of static approach. Hence, it is found that proposed system is best suited for n on real time video streaming applications |
