Abstract | The aim of this research is to study the influence of parental involvement on early childhood children’s disaster risk reduction learning outcomes (knowledge, attitude, and skills), and the competence in learning disaster risk reduction of early childhood children. In the first part, early childhood development and learning process, influence of parental involvement on early childhood learning, and disaster risk reduction education in worldwide were presented in order to provide the background of early childhood children and present disaster risk reduction education. In the second part, the research design and methods were described. The research was conducted in the type of Quasi-experimental research. The samples of thirty-nine children who were studying in Kindergarten 2 –3 between aged four to five were selected for this experiment. The children were separated into two groups, namely Experimental Group and Control Group. The experimental group was taught about the DRR lessons at school and did the exercises with the parents at home, while the control group was taught about the DRR lessons and did the exercises at school with the teachers. Data for this research were gathered from the pretest and posttest scores. Paired-Samples T-Test was used to testify the learning competence in disaster risk reduction of early childhood children, and Independent T-Test was use to testify the influence of parental involvement on disaster rick reduction learning outcomes of early childhood children. On the basis of the results of this research, it is reasonable to conclude that early childhood children aged four to five are capable of learning disaster risk reduction which can be showed in all three learning outcomes. In addition, the results also clearly demonstrate that parents have much positive impact on the learning achievement of their children, especially attitude and skills. |
