Abstract | Financial management is important for any business to achieve success, regardles s of the size of the business. The purpose of this study is to identify and investigate the critical financial management factors that affect the business success of medium contractors in Sri Lanka. The research was carried out in a case - study approach, fo cusing on three successful medium contractors in Sri Lanka. The study was designed after carrying out an extensive literature review followed by conceptualization process. The data collection was carried out through a preliminary survey interview series, f ollowed by the semi - structured case study interviews with personnel from each company at project and head - office level. This process enabled to deeply understand the practice of financial management in companies and identify the critical factors that have an impact on business success of medium contractors. Through the finding s of the study it is noticeable that the contractor should focus on financing the company through a mix of debt and equity in the right proportions, to minimize the finance expenses. I nvestments of the companies should be focused on the expansion of the firm in its construction capacity as well as generating additional revenue through vertical integration. The contractor should be able to select the right clients and mix different type of projects in order to maintain a stable cash flow and to improve receivable collection . It was also found that having a stable cash flow plans, long - term financial plans are highly important for the success of a medium contractor . Constantly developing the company’s financial management system and cost controllin g methods is important to handle much larger projects while increasing profits and revenues. This study can be used to carry out financial management for medium contractors in order to achieve business success. The study develops a connection between business success and f inancial management which is not studied frequently for medium contractors in Sri Lanka. |
