AbstractThis study attempts to assess the O&M administration, operation and maintenance of Nam Ngum 1 and Nam Ngum 2 hydropower plants. It intends to find out what the companies have done well and what have not done well in the O&M administration, operation and maintenance. In order to achieve the mentioned objectives, the structured questionnaires were developed and the surveys were conducted in these two companies. The data was then analyzed with SPSS program to determine the means value of each variable and the means differences between the two companies. The main finding of this study is that Nam Ngum 1 has done very well in nine out of fourteen components of the O&M administration, four out of nine components of the operation, and eight out twelve components of the maintenance. Meanwhile, the study found that Nam Ngum 2 has done fairly well in eight out of twelve components of the O&M administration, eight out of nine components of the operation, and nine out of twelve components of the maintenance. The Independent Sample t-test also found that the means difference among O&M administration, operation, maintenance were statistically significantly different, and the means difference each group were also significantly different. The means of eight other components of O&M administration of Nam Ngum 1 were not significantly different from that of Nam Ngum 2. The test also found that theIndependent Samples t-test found that the means of five out of nine operation components of Nam Ngum 1 were significantly different from that of Nam Ngum 2, and the means of eight out of twelve maintenance components of Nam Ngum 1 were significantly different from that of Nam Ngum 2. The findings were supported by the previous studies, government policies and internationally acceptable O&M guidance.
