AbstractAlong with the development, PetroVietnam has been stepped in to power generation sector since year of 2000, PetroVietnam has been the second largest power investor in Vietnam after the EVN so far. Starting with gas turbine projects in Ca mau and Nhon Trach, nowadays PetroVietnam has started investing into coal fired power projects as Vung Ang 1, Quang Trach 1, Thai Binh 2 etc. in various regions of Vietnam. Similar to other types of industrial project, power plant projects must also deal with challenging of contract management from starting to handed over. As a large scale project with thousands of activities, coal fired power plant project requires a very carefully project management, in which contract management and contract administration are important parts of the management. The purpose of this report, by studying a real case in Vung Ang 1 Power Plant Project, is to analyze contract management practices, key failures and causations ; make a comparision of using contractual protection tools between practices and literature, from that to suggest a recommendation of contract management process projects that are particularly invested by PetroVietnam, and widely for projects which use stated funds, to avoid the problems occur during project implementation
