AbstractBinary decision diagram (BDD) is a data structure initially proposed for representing Boolean functions. Although BDD has been recognized as an efficient tool in logic design, it can be used in lossless image coding. The BDD representation of image can be manipulated such that the result yields logical operations AND, OR, XOR and inversion of encoded images. This thesis extends the functionality and usability of BDD for image encoding by presenting techniques to perform geometric transformations of images which could be applied directly on the BDD representation of image. Given a BDD representation of an image and the displacement of translation, image translation can be expressed as the operation of a BDD representation of the image and a BDD representation of displacement called displacement BDD. The displacement BDD is formed by merging of transition branches which represent the displacement of translation. In addition to image translation, techniques to perform orthogonal rotation and scaling of image encoded by BDD are presented. These geometric transformations can be applied directly on BDD representation of image. An application of the proposed image translation algorithm is presented by applying the algorithm for image sequence generation which creates a simple animation. The basic concept of creating motion from the sequence of images is to successively generate images (or frames) with objects or content slightly placed on different positions. The proposed image translation algorithm is suitable for streaming applications on the Internet because only the initial image and relative displacement of objects are required for generating subsequent frames
