AbstractThis study aspired to find climate change adaptation to rice production by small farmers in Yasothon province, Thailand. Study area in 34 members of SI Than Nature Conservation Group. The main objective of this study was to study changes in climate in last 20 years (1992) and the future trends (2032) in Yasothon Province, to identify the impact of climate change affecting the rice system and harvesting yield of small farmers, to study the adaptation on rice systems and the changes in food security, economic and social alternatives for small farmers, to give recommendation on climate change policy on adaptation of small farmers to national government and local government. Small farmers in Si Than Conservation Group doing on organic agriculture from 9 villages in Si Than sub-district, Pa Teaw district, Yasothon province. A standardized questionnaire to collect data as a prime tool and was supplemented by interviews and a group discussion. The research was mainly focused on a quantitative analysis but with support of qualitative analysis. The finding of this research showed the main change in climate variability has affected to the rice production by temperature in May to December not meet torice temperature requirements. Impact of climate change to rice system and harvesting yield of small farmers by plant does not grow well, reduce of production, lack of soil moisture, reduce of irrigation system, the animal gets more disease, yield get more disease and animal get angry easily.Adaptation to rice system and changes in food security, economic and social alternative for small farmers by changing years by years and using organic agriculture system, local breeders, crop substitution, short term plant after rice season and energy plants. For economic factor to determined are good for health, reduce cost of production and get higher prices. Adaptations on Social sector are less of labours in farms, using more technology and an irrigation system to support organic agriculture system. Environment sector are follow by lower rainfall in the rainy season, long-term of the hot season, using pump in water management and frequency of the abnormal climate have rainfall on harvested in the last year and the drought of the growing rice season. Recommendation for local government and national government are to support organic agriculture and water management, organic local market, promote and support local breeders, promote climate change issues in public areas and rice sprout.
